Expenses that are not tracked seem to disappear into black holes. Sooner or later, we see a gap in our bank account that we shocks us. One of the basics of saving is to know exactly where and how much you spent.
Do you take public transport? Do you know how much you spent in a month?
Assuming it cost you $4 per day, and you work 22 days in a month, you spend $88 a month.
How much then is total lunch money on working days? Assume you spend $5 each day on lunch, that is a total of $110 for just the working days. If you eat out too, then that is $220.
Incidentally, your Ez-link cost you 80% of your monthly lunch money! It is as if you spend on 2 lunches a day!
Adding it all, you spend $308 a month for just going to work.
How often do you use private transport? Food delivery? How often do you spend on desserts or fancy drinks (bubble tea) outside? How much miscellaneous expenses do you average a month? Do you pay monthly fees for document-creation softwares? Is there a free alternative that is just as good?
Start to track all your expenses to make sense of where the money went. Cut out stuff that isn't necessary, especially subscriptions.
